About the Hyaena Specialist Group
The Hyaena Specialist Group consists of a small body of biologists concerned with research about, and conservation of, a small but ecologically important family of mammalian carnivores, the Hyaenidae. The Hyaena Specialist Group is one of over 100 similar groups of scientists and other specialists forming part of the Species Survival Commission of the World Conservation Union (IUCN). The Status Survey and Conservation Action Plan for Hyaenas (Mills & Hofer 1998) provides basic information on hyaenas and the conservation issues they face. Much of this, and other, information about these animals is available on the pages of this website.
All Specialist Group members are volunteers. The Group itself does not manage projects, but, in their individual capacities, group members are involved in the development and implementation of conservation programs and projects.
